By adopting the five-second rule, you can learn to make the right decisions.

Many people have a habit of postponing today’s work for tomorrow. Many people set the alarm at 6 in the morning and hit the snooze button and wake up at 7 in the morning. We all do some things at some point of time that we shouldn’t. In such a situation, you can use the five second rule. (The 5 Second Rule Book Lessons)

When you have to do some work and you do not feel like doing that work, then you count the countdown starting from five. If you have to give a speech and you are scared, you can still use it. When you do this, you shift your focus from that fear, restlessness or laziness to counting. As soon as your attention is diverted from it, all your excuses disappear and you are able to do that work easily.

Sometimes the boundaries are only in the mind. When you stop thinking about them, you can easily push past your limits to do the things that need to be done and you don’t want to do. (The 5 Second Rule Book Lessons)

You can use it to leave bad habits and adopt good habits. You can use it to wake up early in the morning. This will make you feel that you are in control of your life and when you feel that you can control your situation, good or bad, then your ability to work increases. This was told by a psychologist named Julian Rotter in 1954.

With the help of the five second rule, you can push yourself to get what you dream of.

The five second rule sounds simple but its consequences are not trivial.

Sometimes just 1 minute of bravery can prove to be very beneficial for you. A very good example of this is Rosa Parks who in 1955 refused to give her bus seat to a white man. After this he was arrested for 4 days and the news of his arrest spread all over America.

From the very next day, many black people stopped using the bus. The reach of Rosa Parks was very high. She was a member of many groups and societies and was also very famous among her friends. His social connections were so great that on hearing the news of his arrest and the reason for it, many people took to the streets.

What we are trying to show here with this example is that such a huge movement started with just a small no which Rosa Parks said to a white man. That 5 second act of his bravery revolutionized America.

Similarly, we also think that people who are very successful may have more skills than us or do more work. In fact, they work just a few hours more every day. They take risks every day by showing their bravery for just a few seconds. We see the benefit of that risk in the coming times when we keep doing the same things every day and they never need to work again.

Every day gives us an opportunity to do something different, learn something different and improve ourselves. But if you do not do that work by taking some brave decisions then you will be left there. With the help of the five second rule, you can bring out that brave person from inside you.

You cannot control your emotions but you can control your actions.

Everyone has the fear of losing, but what you do when that fear comes is what makes the difference between you and other people.

Successful people always use their emotions to their advantage. They know how to control their emotions. Failed people let their emotions take over and become their slaves, and a slave can never succeed. Laziness comes to all of us when we wake up in the morning, but you fall asleep again when it comes or you wake up after winning over it, that is the reason for all the difference.

We make most of our decisions based on our emotions. Antonio Damasio has shown in his research that we do not act by thinking, but by feeling. If you are afraid of some work, then you start running away from that work. You know you can’t always run away from them and running away won’t make the problem go away, but as Damasio pointed out, we act by feeling, not thinking.

The Five Second Rule helps you conquer fear. With this you can defeat those things which have the power to stop you only by staying in your mind. With this you can control your emotions.

Learn to live life instead of worrying all the time.

There is only one consequence of worrying – if something really bad is going to happen to you, you hurt yourself twice and if you only feel that bad things are going to happen to you but in reality it will not happen, then you Hurt himself once. Overall, whenever you worry you add a problem to your life.

Dr. Carl Pillimer is a Cornell University professor who has been trying to find out the meaning of life from 1200 elderly people for the last 10 years. Most of them feel that they wasted their lives worrying.

The Five Second Rule can help you get out of this. Whenever you feel that you are worrying, count down to five and then ask yourself two questions-

  • What’s going well with me at the moment?
  • What should I be thinking about at this time?

By asking such questions, you can see the good side of your life. Worry distracts you and you can ease your mind by thinking good things. You will always have something or the other that you should be very happy to have. So why not be happy thinking about that thing?
