What you haven’t heard of or really understood how to do is the practice of being focused, undistracted, and physically and intellectually fit. You’re not alone, so don’t be alarmed. In truth, most individuals still haven’t figured out how to control their own brains and bodies so they can obey their inner will.
Long-term success still has less of an impact than immediate delight. And since the dawn of time, things have been this way. It has been the subject of philosophical writings, scientific investigation, and decades of study by life coaches. Thus, rather than merely studying, it’s time to get more involved in practice.
You must begin scheduling your time according to the four quadrants if you want to become more effective.
Procrastination is a serious problem, and the root of it is that we don’t know how to manage our time effectively. The worst part is that we believe we are adept at it. Because we believe we are better informed than scientists, we also reject their techniques and recommendations in this regard.
You will never be able to overcome your repeated procrastination without a strategy, let’s put it to rest once and for all. You can more effectively organise your duties with the use of a time management system, allowing you to complete your tasks. The four areas of your time are as follows:
Q1 covers your critical and pressing work. (For instance, crises)
Q2 comprises significant but not urgent projects (E.g. work, preparing for meetings, etc.) – you want to spend the most of your time here.
Q3 – which involves work that is significant but not urgent (E.g. checking emails)
Q4 covers time spent on pointless activities (E.g. checking social media)
Think about where you spend the majority of your time while conducting a self-analysis. Your workday should consist of of Q2, some Q1 and Q3, and very little Q4. Use these four quadrants to organise your work. Ask yourself where your task fits in whenever you feel like doing something.
To set better goals, define your roles, your role statements, and your schedule.
You already know that the majority of your Q2 work time should be devoted to significant but non-urgent tasks. What is that, though? Because our professions are difficult and involve numerous activities, sometimes it might be difficult to tell what is crucial. You should clarify your role titles and assertions because of this.
While your role statement outlines where you aim to be, your position title describes the main type of work you’ll be doing. Let’s use a professional wedding planner as an example, and your position statement might read, “I want to become the best wedding planner in town.”
You can start arranging your calendar and your goals using this set of statements. You can start creating goals and objectives to gradually accomplish them now that you have identified them. Make sure to give your objectives a deadline so that you have something to work towards. The next step is to make a schedule.
You now need to calculate how much time you can set aside each day to accomplish that ultimate goal given a deadline. Say your goal is to rise to the top of the local wedding industry in a year. How much hours each month would that require? What about daily? To achieve your requirements, increase your Q2 time by the equivalent of two hours per day.
You must take care of your body and energy levels if you want to benefit fully from a time management system.
It’s time to concentrate on the most crucial component of this system—you—now that you’ve learned about the time management system described in this book and gained an understanding of the tactics you must employ to put it into practise.
Even the most effective time management guide is meaningless without a body and a mind to keep everything together. If you want to stick with this strategy, you must maintain your energy levels and take care of your physical well-being. You won’t be able to be productive unless these three energy sources are in full swing. For this reason, be careful to maintain a healthy lifestyle, engage in meaningful job or even sign up for a charity programmed, and actively engage with your immediate social group.
